This project started three days ago, with me noticing the Left4Dead* authoring tools, made available by yours mine and thiers, Valve software company. I decided to take a crack at it, so I followed this link to Valve Developer community wiki to a decent tutorial on how to start designing your own level. Check it out.
So far I’m following this guide pretty much to the letter, and I created two rooms floating in the nether of cyber space, attached via hallway. There’s a table with a shotgun, uzi, pistol and ammunition pile on it, a floor texture, and 2 light sources. I’ll post screen caps when I get a better hang of this.
Hammer is interesting due to its design. theres 4 windows within the program; Camera, Top, Front, and side. Camera shows what happens in game, a full 3 dimensions, and the others show a 2-D cross-ection of those dimensions. I am impressed.
next time Ill put up some texture for the walls, and some doors to make the rooms more realistic, and possibly a .nav file, so the A.I. can control the other 3 survivors
